The Politecnico di Torino (www.polito.it), founded in 1906, is an Italian Technical University with a long-standing tradition of leadership of polytechnic culture. It is one of the most important universities in Europe for engineering and architecture studies, strongly committed to collaboration with industry. It is ranked within the first 33% universities worldwide and within the first 14% for employability rate. The Politecnico offers excellence in technology, architecture, and design and promotes the ability to carry out theoretical as well as applied research. It has many close relationships with international institutions, companies, and local government. For more than 160 years, the Politecnico di Torino has been one of the most prestigious public institutions at both the International and the Italian levels concerning education, research, technological transfer and services in all sectors of architecture and engineering. It was founded in 1859 as Technical School for Engineers, and it became Regio Politecnico di Torino in 1906. During its long history, it became a Research University of international level which attracts students from more than 100 countries and which activates about 800 collaborations per year with industries, public institutions and local organizations. More than 1000 Chinese students are attending Politecnico di Torino, and a brilliant China Polito Alumni Association was born in October 2020. The Department of Architecture and Design (DAD) is the leading branch of learning of the Politecnico di Torino focusing on the art and science of design, architectural and urban buildings, and product and cultural heritage design. It is located in the Castello del Valentino, UNESCO World Heritage. The DAD promotes and coordinates basic and applied research, teaching and training, technology transfer, territorial services related to architectural and urban design including its sustainability, economics and financial aspects, as well as restoration, enhancement and management of architectural, urban and landscape heritage, and industrial, graphic and virtual design.
