i4: Interdisciplinary, Interactive, International and Industry-connected
The i4 exhibition has been curated by Yibing Wang, a Salford PhD researcher, whose research examines the links between digital curation and new directions in art school education. It showcases recent work produced by the School of Arts and Media and includes projects in collaboration with the Department of Digital Media Design at the China Academy of Arts. Wang has been the catalyst in this partnership, having recognized similar interests transforming the curricula of both institutions. The i4 exhibition lives up to its title and includes examples of pedagogy which are internationally focused, closely related to the creative industries and Industry 4.0 and which are both interdisciplinary and interactive in the pedagogical concepts, tools and media which it showcases. Wang has selected examples which reflect recent interdisciplinary developments in teaching and learning at foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and research levels in fine art, design, technology, media, music and performance-based subjects. Some of the work is informed by creative technology prototyping in the use of AI and specifically in interactive cloud-based platforms; these apply and extend the possibilities of authorship through creative collaboration, often with industry partners, via information retrieval, object-based media and digital curation.
