Never Lock a Running Grid
Berlin University of the Arts is one of the largest and most diversified universities of the arts in the world. The teaching offered mostly in traditional formats in the four colleges of Fine Arts, Architecture, Media and Design, Music and Performing Arts as well as at the Central Institute for Continued Education/ Berlin Career College as well as the inter-University centres for Dance (HZT) and Jazz (JIB) encompasses the full spectrum of the arts and related academic studies in more than 70 courses. The diversity of the pieces in this exhibition show the wide range of interests the members of S4NTP and the Computational Arts Class pursue, addressing urgent questions humanity is currently faced with, and the discourses around them. The most obvious link between them appears to be how societies and actors in them attempt to reduce potential frictions, regulating things toward order, always in the interest of keeping the social machinery going, working hard to "Never Lock a Running Grid".
Berlin University of the Arts
Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) is the largest art school in Europe. It is a public art and design school, and one of the four research universities in the city. The university is known for being one of the biggest and most diversified universities of the arts worldwide. It has four colleges specializing in fine arts, architecture, media and design, music and the performing arts. Thus the UdK is one of only three universities in Germany to unite the faculties of art and music in one institution. Spurning compromise in artistic and creative disciplines, the colleges facilitate an integrated view of the arts by means of interdisciplinary projects, shared theoretical starting points, and the consolidation of related academic fields. Thus Berlin University of the Arts gives its students—at an early stage and within the protected sphere of a study course—the opportunity to investigate and experiment with other art forms in order to recognise and extend the boundaries of their own discipline.
